The bond between human and dogs can be wonderful. For thousands of years humans have genetically selected the doggy traits that best compliment our domestic and industrial needs. Dogs more so than any other animal can fit into our world and connect with us emotionally. Sadly problems can occur and situations can become unmanageable.
Maybe you are concerned that your dog is suffering from a form of anxiety, perhaps your dog is causing friction in the family or maybe you are stressed out because your dog's barking or behaviour outdoors is out of control. That's where professional dog trainers can help. I can talk through the issues with you and work out a customised training plan.
Behavioural training top tips:
"When trying to address a problem such as excessive barking or lead pulling start the training in a calm or neutral environment such as your home garden or a secure field. This will set your dog up for success. You can then gradually layer in increasing levels of challenge, distraction and temptation to test your dog's progress and consolidate the new desired behaviour that you want the dog to maintain."
"Before diving into problem solving mode with behavioural training it is essential to first identify the source of the behaviour. Could it be physical or psychological? Is your dog anxious or could she be seeking attention or stimulation?"
Through use of my dog trainer detective skills I will look at the patterns of behaviour and doggy body language clues to assess the purpose or reasons your dog is demonstrating the behaviour in question. A plan can then be put in place to improve the situation.
There are never any guarantees with dog training and if I don't think for any reason that I will be able to help you and your dog I will always be open and honest. It is impossible to say how many training sessions your dog will need however here are some rough guidelines:
Does your dog have one or two fairly mild behavioural issues that need to be addressed? We will call this a paint job. A couple of hours might be enough to get you and your dog on to the right path.
Does your dog have deeply engrained/well rehearsed behavioural issue or several issues? We will call this a refurbishment job and this will take 3 hours at least to start seeing results.
Does your dog display extreme behaviours, show no sign of wanting to cooperate with you or pose a safety risk to itself or others? We will call this a total rebuild job and you are likely to need at least 5 hours to start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
I will always provide a detailed action plan that will be emailed to you after my first visit and at least one free telephone follow up as part of my service.
